The Research Laboratory on Living Design (LILD), is part of the Department of Arts and Design, from Puc-Rio, and has been developing a series of researches on Living Design (Object, Environment and Society), using different natural materials from several  ecosystems.

          Bamboo, earth, vegetables and seeds, are examples of living models that has been used in this research and design. At the same time, they proportionate the exchange of information and knowledge through direct hands’ contact. Those elements are also able to participate of the productive organic process, promoting further revitalization both of the environment and  social relationships.

          In order to develop the field work in urban environments, it was planned an Itinerant Research Laboratory for the Research of Learning through  Living Models II, that is made up of a set of tents, constituting a kind of micro units for the establishment of self-sustainable oriented research.

          With a self-strained bamboo structure, each tent is sustained by 4 supports covered by cloth (canvas), occupying an area of circa 1 m.

          Equipments, tools and implements have been planned and build up using specially with natural materials, resulting from several experiences due to itinerant use.

          The form of this Laboratory remembers not only the joy of  religious festivities’ days, held at public squares (feria), but also the same feeling of freedom and  permeability with the environment than the one felt in the fruit and vegetables fairs.

          With the intention to emphacize attitudes and revitalize activities that enhance the quality of life, the Itinerant Laboratory for Research of the Learning Process has been installed in several different places whenever invited to demonstrate the way how to do it and the art of each of the productor/researchers interested in the investigation of the living design of the collective desire.

          When in action, the “Living Design Fair”, as it is called, exhibits and offers the transparency of the production process, the techniques used and the resulted products.

What is the  Living Design Fair from PUC-Rio?

It is an open class where the apprentice’s question releases the learning process. By exhibiting the process of production  and the demonstration for the experimentation of the research results, using several techniques and revitalizing practices with living models, such as: radishes, avocados, carrots…

 What is the Study Group on Solidary Enterprise Environmental?

It is a multidisciplinary group formed by producers-researches, that install the Living Design Fair, in which they are invited to demonstrate not only their art, but also the process used to create it. As this fair exposes and offers the transparence of different production processes, as well as its several products, at the same time contributes for the creation and the shaping of consciousness through the dialogue on environmental questions, self organization, revitalization , health…

What kind of work is done in this Fair?

Make public and encourage the research results generated by the Open Group of Study Research and Design with Living Models – Biochip,that investigates colors and retrieves information designing with pigments extracted from fresh vegetables. Seeds, fruits and vegetables, generated by life on Earth, recovering in human being different matrix information, that can be decoded from direct non verbal contact that exist in all Living Food.
